So James had a goal for this week: eat vegan

James wanted to have a vegan week. We talked through it and explained what that meant and he was still in. Okay let’s go!

Breakfasts included waffles with agave or skipped altogether. lunches included PBJ, and fake chicken nuggets, and leftover tacos. almond milk was good but he missed regular milk.

Dinner 1 – Pasta with meatless sausage. The rest of us had cheese and butter. James got vegan cheese and butter. He was not into it. Tye though, he ate 3 helpings of “sausage”.

Dinner 2 – tacos! James thought they were just as good, except for that cheese. We used Boca crumbles for the meat.

Dinner 3 – burgers. Beyond meat burgers on the grill. But he couldn’t do that cheese anymore. Okay real cheese for James. He made it 2 days vegan!

Dinner 4 – fried tofu and stir fry. All kids left the table un impressed.

I only had 4 dinner meals planned and that’s about all we can take. James had a few vegan disappointments – can’t have Nutella or honey, cheese! – but was overall very open to everything. Tye swore he wouldn’t do it, but he ate the meatless produce with more gusto than any of us.

I think the lesson learned is they can be open to trying new things. Also that we can sub in a meatless night every now and then. I’m proud of James for sticking it out. Tomorrow he wants Popeyes for dinner. “I’m a meat eater!”

Poll of favorite meal: James- tacos, Steve-stir fry, Rachel-burger. Tye’s favorite was pasta, but I think he like them all… and Logan didn’t eat dinner at all but we don’t usually get much from him

Nicely boys time out

Other mom caught a picture of me lining my kids up for a lecture on listening. No ice cream for the Nicely boys! I have your attention now!
Talked it out and all is good. We will wait for the others to return from their ice cream trip
Tipping point – got wet after I told him no since we didn’t have a change of clothes for the cold ferry ride back. He was in to his waist!
Banished from the water he jumps on rocks. 🙄🤷‍♀️
He’s petting me like a dog
