School assignment: cook a meal equivalent to a budget from the Great Depression

James assignment for history required he cooks and cleans a meal for his family within the budget. We decided meat would kick our $1/person budget out of the water. After much debate beans (pinto) and corn bread would be the way to go!

We don’t have an oven so we used grandma and dudes on the weekend to get ready
Btw since we don’t have a kitchen I doubled the recipe and budget (shhh!)
Heck yeah! Dishes!
Night before: soak beans
Morning drain
Cut onions and try not to cry
Crock pot
Correction – we still have our kitchen but no gas for cooking(we are holding appliances in there!) MidMay we lose the sink and kitchen space!

Glad we get to use condiments. I relied on the internet since so many cookbooks (country too!) were packed up for the reno. We enjoyed the novelty and thinking outside the typical meals for us.
